Allen Neal Hess passed away on June 5, 2024 due to pancreatic cancer.
Allen was born in Layton Utah to Albert Neal Hess and Lillismae Homer Dec 1948. He was the oldest of their four children: Marlene (Jim) Cole, David (Marci) Hess, and Larry (Jenny) Hess.
Allen graduated from Davis High in May 1968. He then married his high school sweetheart Amy Kay in the Logan Temple in July of 1969. A couple months later he was shipped off to Vietnam as a medic in the 44th Medical Brigade. Vietnam was just the beginning of Allen’s military career and medical profession. He came home from Vietnam having earned the Bronze star. In 1994, he retired Captain from the Army as a PA. He then worked for Wee Care Pediatrics for 15 years, retiring in 2012.
During his military career Allen and Amy had 6 children: Heather (John) Nielsen, Colin (Rebecca) Hess, Nathan (Monica) Hess, Jared (Emily) Hess, Carolyn (Brandon) Griffin, and Emily Hess. They enjoyed their time in the military traveling all over the world. Allen instilled a great love and pride in America with his family.
Allen loved the outdoors. His children have fond memories of camping with the pop-up trailer, fishing, and canoeing. He always had a joke ready and a BIG, loud, boisterous, contagious laugh to go with it. He loved Louis Lamour books and country music. Amy and Allen, married for almost 55 years, made their home in Mountain Green where Allen had a couple high school buddies he would eat breakfast with every week. They also enjoyed going for rides with their Razors into the mountains.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Neal Hess and Lillismae Homer. He is survived by his wife, three siblings, six children, 29 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday June 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Rose Hill Ward Chapel, (4150 W Old Hwy Rd, Mountain Green, UT 84050). Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will follow at the Mountain Green Cemetery.
