ROY a" Allison F. Giles, 86, died peacefully at his home in Roy, March 25, 2008 surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Al was born October 12, 1921 to Robert H. Giles and Lena Francis Giles of Littleton (Milton), Morgan, Utah. Al grew up on his parents' farm in Milton and always talked about those days with great fondness. He was the third born of nine children, Ruth (Crowton), Floyd, Allison, Burke, Harold, Mark, Paul, Jocile (Doxey), and Bryant. All of his siblings except Ruth and Paul preceded him in death.
Al graduated from Morgan High School and then served in the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles) during World War II. He fought in three major battles of that war: the Invasion of Normandy, Battle of the Bulge, and Siege of Bastogne. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart twice, and was partially disabled as a result of his service.
Al Married Dorothy Elizabeth Shaw in the Salt Lake Temple on September 21, 1945. They were blessed with four children, a daughter Tamora who died at birth, Vicki (Frank) Corgiat of Roy, Utah, William Butch (Judy) of West Point Utah, and Robert Rex (Pam) of Smithfield, Utah. He is survived by his children, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Al was a member of the Springbrook Ward in Roy, Utah but was limited in his participation because of poor health during the last several years.
Al loved fishing, hunting, traveling, and just being around people. An invitation to eat out was almost enough to revive him from any illness. He will be missed by his family but they know that he is with Dorothy, with his parents, and with his siblings who went ahead to prepare for his arrival.
His family thanks VistaCare Hospice for their care and concern during these last several weeks and for special friends whose visits always lifted his spirits.
The funeral will be held Saturday, March 29 at 12:00 noon in the Springbrook Ward, 2915 West 4425 South, Roy, UT. Friends and family may call at the church Saturday from 10 to 11:45 a.m.
Interment, South Morgan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Church Perpetual Education Fund or the General Missionary Fund.
