Anna Bell Carter Porter passed away on July 9, 2022. She was born on October 8, 1931 to Henry and Edna Dearden Carter in Porterville, Utah. She was the third child and first daughter in the family. She loved her childhood in Porterville and spoke of it often. Her brothers were her best friends. Eventually she was blessed with three sisters that she mothered for the rest of her life.
She graduated from Morgan High School in 1949 and was married a week later, on June 8 to Keith Porter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They hoped to start a family but that did not happen until years later when on August 14, 1956 they adopted their daughter, Dixie. She changed their lives and brought them joy and happiness. In 1961 they welcomed a foster daughter, Anna Kent.
Anna loved sports. She was on several softball teams. She also coached softball. Her softball girls were her lifelong friends. She also loved to bowl and golf and participated in those until her arthritis wouldn’t let her anymore.
When Dixie started school Anna decided to go to college. She loved every class she took and wanted to major in all of them. She knew as a teacher she could cover all the subjects. She graduated from Weber State with a degree in Education. She taught in the Morgan School District for 28 years. She loved teaching and her students.
Music was an important part of her life. She loved to sing. She sang in a quartet for many years. One of her favorite pastimes was to play the piano. She taught herself how to play starting out on the kitchen table. She got to play the real piano when she went to her Grandma Dearden’s house. When she moved to the Family Tree, she missed her piano, so she bought a keyboard and loved the time she spent playing it.
She also loved to read. She especially loved books by Gerald Lund. At the time of her death she was reading a biography of Joseph Smith.
Anna was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony which she shared with others. She held many callings in the church including Relief Society President twice, and Stake Young Women’s President. She studied the scriptures daily and loved Come Follow Me.
She is survived by her daughter, Dixie (Kevin) Boswell, foster daughter Anna Bennett, sisters, Linda (James) DeGroot, Ina (Les) Davis, and Betty Holman, and 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Edna Carter, her husband, Keith, brothers, Val and Keith.
A special thanks to all the staff at Family Tree Assisted Living for their love and care and to her hospice nurse, Kory, for her love and friendship.
