Barbara Lynn “Barb” Bunch Caine passed away peacefully at her home in Hoytsville, Utah, on April 21, 2025, at the age of 71.
Barb was born on April 8, 1954, in Rockwood, Tennessee. Shortly after, her family moved west to Orange, California, where she spent her youth in the sunshine. She attended Catholic elementary school, then graduated from Orange High School, and went on to play volleyball at Fullerton College.
In 1978, Barb moved to Southern Utah, where she studied at Southern Utah University and earned a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine. An adventurer at heart, she worked in ski school, on ski patrol, and spent time as a boatwoman for a river company in Moab—living fully and deeply in the landscapes she loved.
Barb eventually settled in Northern Utah with her beloved husband, Paul, spending over 30 wonderful years together in Hoytsville. She was an active member of the Park City curling and volleyball clubs, and she and Paul filled their lives with adventure—sailing, skiing, camping, traveling, and river running.
Barb was endlessly curious, always reading, always learning. She had a deep love for the outdoors, horses, and gardening. Her spirit was grounded in nature, and she found joy in wild places and quiet moments alike.
Barb is survived by her mother, Rose Marie Coakley Bunch; her husband, Paul Stratford Caine; her stepdaughter, Teah Caine Flores (Alejandro) her sisters, Donna Marie Maxfield and Rebecca Ann; and brother James Patrick Bunch and her beloved cats, Boopy and Ity Bity.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Robert Bunch; her sister, Peggy Sue Nay; and her brothers, John Robert Bunch and Timothy Michael Bunch
She will be remembered for her adventurous heart, warm presence, and loving spirit.
A celebration of life for Barb will be this Saturday April 26, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. at Echo Resevoir Bison Run Group Campsite.
