Barbara Porter

MORGAN - Our precious mother passed away at the age of 86, on December 13, 2007 at her daughter, Julia's home in Morgan, Utah, with all of her children and one sister by her side. She died as she lived - a real lady.

Mom was born on April 21, 1921 in Porterville, Utah, the first child of Thomas Samuel Carter and Bessie White Carter. She lived her entire life in the beautiful Morgan valley.

Her last wish was to be with her family at home in Morgan. Her greatest treasure in life has been her children and grandchildren. She taught them to work together, play together and to appreciate life.

She married her sweetheart L. Russell Porter on November 2, 1940. Their vows were later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Daddy died on November 24, 1995.

Mom's life has been one of labor filled with love. She instilled in her family treasures that have become traditions; a love of family and music, an appreciation for the outdoors through camping, fishing and hunting, a wholesome humor, fair and firm discipline, a living example of unselfish service and loyalty. No child should grow old without the memory of such a mother.

She was a master seamstress. She loved to garden and read. She was active in the LDS Church serving in the Primary, Relief Society and other functions. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister Colleen, a daughter Ruby Barbara Porter Stokes and a son Gary Russell Porter, and two grandsons.

She is survived by her children: Janet Waller (Boyd); Bart Porter (Dianne); a daughter-in-law, Dianna (Gary) Porterville; Julia Porter, Morgan; Jan Markowski (Byron); Dionne Halverson (Phil), Ogden; Becky Heiner (Lloyd), Las Vegas, Nevada; Ted Porter (Kathy), Mtn. View, Wyoming. She also leaves behind 30 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Carter (Marilyn), Salt Lake; four sisters, Vanda Lewis, (Gene deceased), Bountiful; Pauline Carter, Bountiful; Helen Johnson (Paul, deceased) Ogden; Dena Rich (Ivan), Morgan.

As a family we would like to thank Hospice, Crestwood Care Center and Mt. Ogden Rehab. for their compassion and care of our mother.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 12 noon in the Porterville LDS Church. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan on Monday, December 17, 2007, from 6 to 8 pm and Tuesday at the Porterville Church prior to services from 10:45 to 11:45 am.

Interment at South Morgan Cemetery.
