Benjamin Randy Pentz, 78, passed away on June 28, 2024, at his home in Lost Creek, Utah, after fighting a hard battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Randy was born December 3, 1945, in Kingman, Arizona. He was the second of seventeen children, the son of Charles Irwin Pentz and Violet Carpenter Pentz. Family was the most important thing to him, and carrying on the Pentz posterity was a great blessing to him.
Randy graduated from Morgan High School in 1963 as an avid sports player. He held high achievements and excelled in wrestling and football. He later attended Brigham Young University with a full-ride wrestling scholarship. He married his high school sweetheart, Alona Willie Pentz; they were later sealed in the Ogden Temple in 1976. They made their home in Buhl, ID, where Randy managed a cattle ranch. While working on the ranch, he met his idol, John Wayne, and got a photo with him, which we all proudly hang in our homes today. In 1976, he built their home on his family’s property in Lost Creek, Utah, where he remained until his death.
Randy had a stellar work ethic; he never stopped working, even when his health began to decline. He had a passion for farming and ranching, which he did throughout his life. He had unique talents and was skilled in all work areas; he could build, weld, or repair anything. There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t accomplish. He retired from Holcim Cement Company, formerly Ideal Cement Company, in 2015 after 30 years of service. He enjoyed making several friends while employed there.
Randy was a man of faith, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was strong and independent, honest and humble, and held very high integrity in all he did throughout his life. He adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he had a special connection with each of them. In return, they loved him beyond words and will hold so many memories of them forever in their hearts. He loved his wife immensely and expressed so much love for her. He had a difficult time leaving this earth without her.
Our hearts are broken over this tremendous loss, but we are at peace knowing he has been set free. We find comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with his Heavenly Father and loved ones who have gone before him. We love you so much, Dad, and we will miss you deeply.
He is survived by his wife, Alona Pentz, and seven children: Rod (Kelley), Paige Roath (Kyle), Dean, TiaLynn Cline (Damien), Dustin (Tifany), Sharon Garfield (Scott), and Matt (Audrey). He has twenty-three grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his brothers, Charles Stanly Pentz, Jacob Whitney Pentz, Timothy Clyde Pentz, and Samuel Zachariah Pentz; his sisters, Ruby Pentz Nelson, Pearl Pentz Watts, and Jewell Pentz Woolsey; and his sweet great-grandson, Kaizen Krew Bolinder.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, at 11 a.m., at the Morgan Stake Center, 355 North 700 East, Morgan, Utah. A viewing will be held before the funeral services from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. The interment will be at the Croydon Cemetery.
