Our dear mom, Berniece Brown Warner, age 83, lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 13, 2017, surrounded by her family at her home in Coalville, UT. She was born on Oct 13, 1933 to William Ezra and Jeanette Pauline Neilson Brown in Evanston Wyoming. She was the youngest of 8 children.
She graduated from Evanston High School, then went to Denver to work for Mountain Bell Telephone Company, returning a year later to care for her dear sister Bessie, who became ill. She worked for Deans Coffee Shop, Summit County Hospital, Moore Motel and then Richard Osmond took a chance on her and she landed a job with Farmer’s Home Administration, from which she retired from in 1997.
Mom married her best friend, Karl Warner, on March 20, 1953, in Evanston WY. They raised 3 children, whom they loved. They were very proud of their children and grandchildren’s accomplishments. Family meant everything to mom. Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which she held many different positions- YW president, Relief Society Secretary and teacher, and multiple Primary callings.
Mom enjoyed growing up on the ranch in Wyoming. She lived through hard times during the depression years with her brothers and sisters, whom she dearly loved. She was proud of her Scottish heritage, even the superstitions. She was born on Friday the 13th, and had 13 letters in her name, (at time of birth), had 3 children, along with passing away on the 13th. 13 and 3’s was in her makeup. Mom was the glue with her family, keeping in touch with each one of her siblings, all her life. Hard work, integrity, caring, giving, and honesty were a few of her attributes. She loved camping with her family Don & Margie Wright and good friends Preston and Lucille Judd. Road trips, especially with her brother Jim and his family, walking with her husband and best friend, Karl and her family. Berniece was an avid bowler, come hell or high water she was determined to go to her Monday Morning bowling. She truly loved and cherished all her bowling friends. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting afghans for each of the grandchildren and others in the community and sewing quilts. She kept her mind active by doing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper, watching Jeopardy, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Lets Make a Deal. She tried Sudoku, but said she really didn’t enjoy it much. Mom was an excellent roll maker. No one could make them like her, even if you were standing right next to her, she just had the touch. She loved family gatherings when all the family could be together. Mom was a good listener with very common sense advice. Mom had a tender heart for animals, especially cats, which she opened her home to many throughout the years, 2 of which are still at the home, Buddy and Freddie the Freeloader. She also had many deer that enjoyed her yard and her garden, yearround.
Mom went through many trying times in her life. At the young age of 2, her mother passed away, and others stepped in to help raise her, and her brothers and sisters. Then again in 1996, after several years of battling cancer, she lost her only son, Kim, at the age of 42. That changed her forever. She said, “it’s not supposed to happen that way”
Berniece is survived by her two daughters, Anna (Kurt)Simister, Sheryl (Doug)Porter, both of Coalville, 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and a sister Delora Bateman of Kemmerer, WY. She was preceded in death by her husband Karl, son Kim, parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
The family would like to thank Encompass Hospice, especially Corey Ann and Matt Fellows for their loving care of mom. Also, a special thanks to Dr Wain Allen, Jeanette Vernon and Dr Vilija Avizonis.
