Betsy Maude Mikesell passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on August 5th, 2023. Betsy was born in Porterville, Utah on August 17th, 1925, to Joseph Mikesell and Martha Lythgoe Mikesell.
Aunt Betsy was deeply loved by her family, including all of her nieces and nephews. She was a fun-loving, vibrant, and sassy woman. Her dedication to service and hard work was a great example to us all. She would, and did, do anything for anyone. Some of her last words were, “How can I help, who can I help?” She made everyone feel as though they were her favorite. She had a special bond with her twin baby brother and sister, Roy and Joy.
Aunt Betsy joined the Navy in January of 1951 and served 24 years. She served in Brunswick, Maine; San Diego, California; Denver, Colorado; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Pensacola, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Richard, Abbott, Stanley, and Darrell) sister Ella, several nieces and nephews, and a cousin who was raised as a brother, Earl Lythgoe. She is survived by her brother Roy Mikesell (Patricia), sister Joy Snethen (Bruce), sister-in-law Nancy Mikesell as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held August 9th at the Morgan Stake Center with a viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 am. and funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment at the Porterville Cemetery.
Special thanks to Envision Hospice, Shasta, Seleste, Lisa, Stephanie and James for their tender loving care in Betsy’s final weeks.
