Billie, 81, passed away peacefully at South Ogden Post Acute Care Center on Sunday, January 28, 2018.
She was born on January 26, 1937 to Annie Mae Everett and Homer William Walker in Winston County Alabama and raised in Opa Locka, Florida. She met Robert Gary Stewart, of Ogden Utah, in the USAF where they were both air traffic control tower operators and they were married on Aug 9, 1957 in Tacoma Washington.
Billie and Bob relocated to Ogden, Utah, had two children, then moved back to Opa Locka, Florida in 1961. Billie had many jobs, but County Court House Clerk was her favorite. She and a friend, Ramona, would take court tests to see who would have the highest score (Momma always won). Billie loved learning and always had a book in her hand. She was a positive role model for her children. She became a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966.
Time came to move back to Utah in 1970, to Mountain Green in Morgan County. Mom and dad both had a love for horses. They raised a few and one went on to race at Wyo. Downs. Mom devoted her time to the Freedom Riders. Every week she would take her horse, Willie, and let the disabled children ride. She loved seeing the children enjoying themselves. “They felt free,” she would say.
Moms other love was painting with oils. She studied commercial art at Miami Tech. and honed in her skills painting western scenes. Later in life she volunteered at the Eccles Senior Center teaching oil painting.
Billie is meeting her husband, her son, Robert Gary II, and her parents.
Surviving is her daughter, Lawanna Ann Stewart; sister, Iwanna Walker; granddaughter, Sarah Jane (Marty) Kronberg and five great grandchildren: Alexandria, Martin, Alivia, Faith, and Fallon.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 12 noon at the Highland LDS Chapel (5378 W. Old Hwy. Rd, Mountain Green, Utah). A viewing will be at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be at the Peterson Cemetery.
