Boyd Sakizzie

Boyd Sakizzie, son of Hastiin Tesh 'kis toho and Top ah ah bitsih, left mortality on February 17, 2011 from complications of diabetes. He was born on April 20, 1926 in between Aneth and Montezuma Creek. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings: Thomas, Arlene, Helen, Nora, Ora Chee, Leola, and Joe; his beloved wife Margaret Blackhorse Lee Sakizzie; his children: Melvin Howard, Carmenlita, Virgil Vernon, and Charlotte. His surviving children include: Herman Sam (Teresa), Marjorie Valerie Sakizzie, Rena Mae Hopkins, Lora Jeanne (Mark) Thurston, Elizabeth Lee (Jimmy Sr.) Holly, and Benjamin Lee. Boyd loved and delighted in the presence of his grandchildren and his numerous great-grandchildren. Also Boyd has a few great- great-grandchildren.

Boyd, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spent part of his youth working on the railroads. After his marriage he provided for his family by working at various jobs, a few being: the CC Project, carpentry for the UNDC, agricultural work among the bean fields of Colorado, as a ranch hand for Chester Tozer, and for John Ismays. Boyd enjoyed watching fast pitch softball, western movies and WWF (pro-wrestling). He spent the summer days in Morgan, Utah watching his grandchildren and their spouses play slow-pitch softball. When he was middle aged his co-workers and he would put together slow-pitch softball games that were played among the rocks and the brushes of the Navajo Reservation.

Some fond memories of Boyd are of him singing lyrics from "Don't You Come Back No More" (Ray Charles), "I'm in the Jail House Now" (Johnny Cash), and "Sugar Time" (Johnny Cash). Before we knew of Steven King, Boyd would entertain his children with scary stories. Dad, we will truly miss you. You taught by example. The stories of your youth and the "Good Ole Days" have enriched our lives. Thank you for it all.

We would like to extend our thanks to the staff of Davis Wound Clinic, for their tender-loving care, and to Aspen Nursing Home for helping us through the difficult transition of the passing of our father and our mother, three years previous. Thank you to neighbors and friends who helped to make our dad feel comfortable when he was so far from all that was familiar to him. Funeral Services will be held at the San Juan Mortuary, Blanding, Utah on February 21, 2011 at 1 p.m.
