STOKESDALE, NC - Daniel J. Baird, 57, fun-loving, sarcastic, and caring; husband, father, grandfather, and brother; returned home to his Heavenly Father on December 25, 2012.
Dan was the first born son of Larry J. Baird and LaRae S. Baird, born on December 22nd, 1955. He was without a doubt the precious, dark haired, baby boy that every mother and father dreamed about. He was the object of millions of snap shots and adored by all. This handsome little boy that was the entertainer of the crowd. His mother dressed him in the most fashionable sailor suits, with perfectly groomed hair and eyebrows.
When he was 5 years old, his family bought a dairy farm in Eden, WY and he became his Dad's number one farm hand on a 450-acre farm. His family moved back to Morgan, UT when he was 10 years old.
Dan was adventurous and loved to fish, camp, and go sandrailing. He even built his own dune buggy from the bottom up. Another of his passions was his trucks, big or small, he loved them all.
He attended Morgan High School and graduated in 1974. He was intelligent and breezed his way through without much difficulty. He was a leader and always had a group of friends surrounding him. Shortly after graduation he went to work for Carrigan Motors. In 1978, he was hired by Volvo at White Motors in Ogden, UT. Dan grew and changed as the company did. He moved with Volvo to Ohio, then to West Virginia, and finally to Greensboro, North Carolina where he had been working as a Service Technician. He served 34 years as a Volvo employee and was very passionate and proud of his work.
Dan married Debra Ford March 30, 1979 in Morgan, UT. Together they had four beautiful and talented children. They divorced in 1987. He married his sweetheart, Greta Briggs on August 16, 1997 in Christiansburg, VA. He was a loving step-father to her sweet girls, Brandy and Melissa.
Dan was best known for his quick wit and contagious laugh. He had a magnetic personality and could usually be found at the center of the crowd. He was a very proud man and his family was his most prized possession. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and was very proud of each one of them.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Greta; children: Dallas (Josh) Ingles; Rebecca (Aaron) Frandsen; Mark (Kathryn) Baird and Zackary (Brittany) Baird; Brandy Briggs and Melissa Briggs, his 7 grandchildren, his siblings: Bonnie (Bob) Thomson; Bill (Dixie) Baird; Robert (Shari) Baird; Rhonda (Jason) Morgan; and his little buddy Scooter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Aunt "Rosie" and Aunt Merle. The family would like to thank the staff of Moses Cone Hospital for their kindness to our husband and father.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 4, 2013, at the Milton Chapel, 1255 North Morgan Valley Drive, Morgan, Utah, at 1:00 p.m. Viewings will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Morgan and Friday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. A graveside service will follow at the MiltonCemetery.
