Darrel Smith

August 22, 1927 — October 3, 2008

Darrel Owen Smith, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in West Haven on Friday, October 3, 2008, with his daughters at his side.

He was born August 22, 1927, in Ogden, Utah, to Thomas Adrian Smith and Sarah Oles Owen Smith. He was raised in Morgan and was a member of the LDS Church.

He was a veteran of the Korean War. He worked at HAFB from 1954 to 1982, receiving certificates of recognition for his excellent work.

Highlights of his career included building and maintaining aircraft, servicing vehicles, and body work. Before retiring he was a work leader training youth from the Job Corps.

He was very talented and an inventor of sorts, having made many of his own tools that he needed for his many projects. He was a true do-it-yourself man. Whatever project he undertook was done with meticulous care. He was a perfectionist and his work reflected it. He enjoyed rebuilding cars, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He was always willing to help wherever he was needed and so happy to share his knowledge with others. His kindness and gratitude touched many people. He will be missed very much by his family and friends.

Surviving are his two daughters, Margo Gallegos of Sunset, Utah and Janice (Ashley) Wiechmann of Colorado Springs, CO. He has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Dale (Emma) Smith of Morgan, Utah and Jeanette Searle of Riverdale, Utah.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Love Hospice for their compassionate care. We especially thank Micki, Danny, and Ashley.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the South Morgan Cemetery.
