Darrell Gene Kippen, 83, passed away peacefully at McKay-Dee Hospital on Thursday, 5 Nov 2009 of causes incident to age and with complications arising from a significant heart surgery that was being performed on his behalf by a valiant and dedicated medical team at the hospital. Darrell was born 27 August 1926 in Devil's Slide, Utah, the son of Charles Robert Kippen and Maggie Tonks.
Darrell was an active member of the LDS church. As a young man he served a mission for the church in the Central States Mission. He continued his active support of missionary work throughout his life. He loved the gospel and going to the temple and loved the peace and the spirit he felt there. He was married to Janet Rae Foster on 3 July 1986 and they were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden, Utah Temple.
He was a lifelong Rancher and resident of Morgan County. An avid sportsman, Darrell always loved the outdoors, and hunting and fishing were favorite pastimes. He loved his family very much and enjoyed family events and getting together with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He has a special place in his heart for all the wonderful friends in Yuma, AZ and elsewhere that he and Jan have acquired while traveling and living where winters are more friendly than in Morgan.
He is survived by his loving wife Jan, by his five children: Blaine (Kathleen), Pleasant View; Brad (Christine), Idaho Falls; Garth, Salt Lake City; Paula Shaw (Frank), Farr West; and Susan Holmes (Matt), Sandy. By his step-children: Tom Perry (Kathy), Scottsdale, AZ; DeEtte LeCompte (Tom) Phoenix, AZ; and by brothers and sisters: Fred (Gail), Morgan; Colleen Berg (LaVell), Layton; Dee (Connie), Morgan; Neeta Nelson (Ken), Morgan; and Leeta Shisler(Dennis), Morgan. He is also survived by his 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren who love him dearly.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother Leland, and by sisters, Lucile Nelson, Marion Porter, and Larue Mortensen.
Funeral services will be held at the Morgan Stake Chapel at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 November. Family and friends may call on Monday, 9 November from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Walker Mortuary (45 W 200 N, Morgan, UT). A private family viewing will take place Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education fund or mission fund.
