David Peterson Alleman

July 17, 1947 — February 10, 2025

Mountain Green

David Peterson Alleman was called to his eternal home on February 10, 2025 at the age of 77. He was surrounded by family, finally out of pain, and ready to meet his Heavenly Father.

David was born to James Klinkel and Jeanette Peterson Alleman on July 17, 1947 in Norfolk, Virginia. James was a Navy pilot, so David was raised all over the world, starting school in Japan and graduating in Taiwan. He was the oldest of 3 siblings and loved his younger sisters dearly.

David married his fiery, little redhead, Laura Eileen Sherwood on August 28, 1969 in Fairfax, Virginia. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mt. Timpanoges Temple. Together they had three wonderful daughters: Burgundy (Chris Daugaard), Ashley (Chris Butler), and Cassady (Tim Jackson). They were blessed with 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren (so far).

David attended BYU for 2 years and then was accepted into the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated with the class of 1971 and began his career as a Navy pilot, just like his father, James. David served his country for 23 years, flying P3’s (a submarine tracking plane) and also flying smaller planes as an instructor. He had an illustrious flying career racking up over 4000 hours of flight. After he retired in 1994, the family moved to Utah and settled in Mountain Green.

David was a real “smarty pants” and acquired three masters degrees. After retiring from the Navy he had 2 more careers: one as a quality manager at Honeywell and the third as a professor at the University of Utah. He was super intelligent, hard working and a fountain of facts and information. He loved to serve others and enjoyed his teaching career as much as he did his flying career.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served his Lord with many callings. Branch Executive Secretary, High Priest leader, Gospel doctrines teacher…and his favorite, as a Primary teacher.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and 2 sisters. With a wife, 2 sisters and 3 daughters, David was surrounded by females. He was always out-numbered, but never out-classed!

He had a wicked sense of humor and was a master at sarcasm. He was brutally honest, dignified, humble, and a good example to all who came in contact with him. He was strong, but quiet. He was most often the smartest man in the room, but never the most boisterous. He loved his family dearly, and showed this love by showering them with little bits of wisdom. He was loved by many and will be truly missed.

His life will be honored on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Trappers Loop Ward Building, 5378 W. Old Highway Road in Mountain Green with a viewing from 10:30-11:30, and a funeral at 12:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest in the Mountain Green Cemetery.
