Delia Griffith

September 18, 1919 — March 24, 2008

Our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Delia Chappell Porter Griffith, 88, passed away peacefully at the Mt Ogden Care Center, Ogden, UT, on Monday, March 24, 2008 of causes incident to age. She was born September 18, 1919, in Coalville, UT to Thomas L. & Minnie Martha Chappell. She was the youngest of 7 children. She grew up in Coalville and graduated from North Summit, with the class of 1937. She married Carlos Leo Porter on December 7, 1937. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of 2 children, Carla Dee and Justin Douglas. Carlos passed away on May 9, 1977. She later married Charles Raymond Griffith on September 6, 1985, he passed away November 7, 1988.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, holding many callings. She was active in the community and supportive of Carlos in all of his positions, both in church and in the community. She was president of the North Summit Senior Citizens for about 10 years. She played drums in the Sr. Citizen Band and was very proud of their music. She traveled with the Seniors on many outings & enjoyed the yearly get togethers with some of her classmates. She enjoyed bowling & gardening. She was employed at Morby's Store and the Summit Co. Hospital.

She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, their talents and accomplishments. She was an avid sports fan, especially basketball with the Utah Jazz & the BYU Cougars. She never missed a game on television and was able to attend one Jazz game in person. She is survived by her children, Carla Dee (Jerrold) Richins, Justin Douglas (Sheryl) Porter, both of Coalville. Five grandchildren: Steven (Tressa) Stokes, Susie (Troy) Prescott, Riley (Rachael) Porter, Karli (Lance) Black, Jordan Porter. Seven great-grandchildren: Whit Stokes, Stephenie Stokes, Kayden Prescott, Jackson Prescott, Monique Porter, Brooklynn Porter, Hailey Porter, and one more great-granddaughter to arrive in May.

Preceded in death by her husbands, parents, sisters Thelma, Edna, & Katie, & brothers Newell, Ernest & Vernal, & one great-granddaughter Alex Kay Prescott.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Mt Ogden Care Center for their compassion and care of our mother and grandmother.

Services will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 12:00 noon at the Coalville Stake Center. A viewing at the Stake Center will be held on Monday evening, March 31, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Coalville City Cemetery, under the direction of Walker Mortuary.
