Donald Parker Woodbury passed away Nov. 25, 2007. He was born May 6, 1918 in Hurricane, Utah and was the youngest of eight children born to Robert Parker and Caroline Penelope (Nellie) Thompson Woodbury.
His early years through teens were spent in Hurricane. After graduation from Hurricane High he moved to Los Angeles and attended the Frank Wiggins Trade School. He worked in plumbing and other employment until 1939 at which time he returned to Hurricane to accept a call to serve an LDS mission in California. In April 1942 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Corp of Engineers as a bridge builder in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was awarded the Bronze Star in the Philippines. He was discharged Jan. 17, 1946.
He married Doris Myrtle Johnson, Nov. 12, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. One daughter, LuDawna, was born to this union. Doris died Oct 3, 1973. He married Beth Stephens Cook, Aug 20, 1974 for eternity in the Ogden Temple and thus acquired five more children.
He worked as a plumber until 1966 and then worked as Defense Depot Ogden in May 1968 as a boiler plant engineer. He retired from there in May 1984.
Donald was a devoted member of the L.D.S. Church and served in many capacities, among which were: a two year fulltime mission, 15 years as a Stake Missionary, 20 years as a Ward Choir Member, Counselor to two Bishops, High Priest Group Leader, President of MIA, teacher in various classes, 8 years as Ward Farm coordinator, Weber Region Special Interest President, 63 years as a home teacher and 12 years as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.
His main interests were family and people; other interests included all kinds of woodworking and welding. Don was ingenious in developing tools and jigs.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, and children: LuDawna (William) Ramage, Judy (Fred) Coy, Kristine Pritchett, Sandra Burborough, Ross M. (Jocelyn) Cook, Layne E. (Lani) Cook and one foster daughter, Patricia Bowen, 36 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, June Hibbert, Placentia, CA. His parents, first wife, two brothers, four sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death.
A viewing will be held Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 from 6 to 8 at the Lindquist Roy Mortuary, 5600 S. 3333 W., Roy.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 11 a.m. with a viewing prior to the services from 9:45 to 10:45, at the Sandridge Ward Chapel, 4900 S. 2000 W. Roy. Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, Uintah, Utah.
