Dorene Dora Mischke Gunn passed away peacefully at her home of over 60 years in Hoytsville, Utah on February 12, 2025. Dorene was born on October 9, 1940, in Ogema, Minnesota to Mary Evelyn Bullene and Alfred Albert Mischke also of Ogema, Minnesota. Dorene and her family moved to Castle Rock, Utah where her dad worked for the Railroad. She attended North Summit School District where she graduated in 1958. She worked for a while in Salt Lake City Utah until she began being courted by her lifelong sweetheart, Theron Bingham Gunn of Hoytsville, Ut. They were married on May 6, 1960, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
Dorene loved and cherished her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She loved having her family around for holidays, birthdays, and any other reason for her family to gather together.
She was an amazing seamstress, making wedding dresses, prom dresses quilts, and baby blankets.
Dorene belonged to the civil air patrol donated her time to the Summit County Sherriff’s department as a reserve officer and Search and Rescue.
She spent a great deal of her time in her later years collecting and documenting the history of the residents of the Hoytsville Cemetery and the history of the Stake Presidencies for the Summit and Coalville Stakes. She loved Hoytsville and the people who live there.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she served in the Cub Scouts, Young Women’s, Primary, Relief Society, and was loved in the library. She also spent much time on genealogy. She was very compassionate toward members and there was always a cake or cookies on the counter to be shared.
Dorene is survived by her loving husband Theron Gunn and six of seven children, Todd(stillborn), Dennis (Cynthia), Dallas (Janene), Jason (Tawni), Chad (Stacy), Marlene (Bill) Speckmeyer, Diane (Jeremy) Lewis, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Dorene was preceded in death by her son, Todd, her mother and father and mother and father-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday February 18, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at the Hoytsville Chapel. Viewings will be held Monday from 5-7 PM and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hoytsville Cemetery. The family wishes to express gratitude to Janette Vernon and all of those involved in her medical care and to Marlene for all of her dedication and time on mom’s behalf.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Primary Children’s Hospital in her name.
