Dorothy V. Judd Blonquist, a woman of faith and honor, joyfully passed through the veil on June 27, 2024, to rejoin her husband Kenneth O'Neill Blonquist. Born in the family home on September 15, 1930, in Hoytsville, Utah, to Frank Melvin and Sarah Edna Vernon Judd, she was the ninth of ten children and grew up on the family farm. Dorothy attended school in Hoytsville until the seventh grade, then completed her education in Coalville. She graduated from North Summit High School in 1948, where she actively participated in band and choir.
She married Ken on April 28, 1950, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They made their home in Coalville and were blessed with three daughters. Dorothy worked at the North Summit School District as the district secretary for 27 years, retiring in 1998. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in numerous callings, most notably as the Relief Society Compassionate Service Leader for many years. Dorothy was a regular temple patron and thoroughly enjoyed watching “Music & the Spoken Word” on Sundays.
One of her great joys was cooking, a talent she attributed to her mother’s teachings and in which she excelled. She was a remarkably talented candy maker, well known for her puff rice balls given out at Halloween and her hand-dipped chocolates and pecan logs at Christmas time. Throughout the years, she actively walked the streets of Coalville in the early morning hours which helped maintain her excellent health. She was an avid reader, loved working in her yard, and continuously helped care for many senior friends in the community. After Dorothy was widowed in 1987, she showed resilience and independence. In her later years, she was fortunate to have good neighbors and loved ones who provided companionship and helped take excellent care of her. She thoroughly enjoyed visitors stopping by her home where she resided for the last 70 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all siblings, and her son-in-law Steve Richens. She is survived by her daughters, Deanna (Kerry) Pace, Debra Richens, and Kenna Rae Blonquist; grandchildren Andrea (Bill), Colby (McKenzie), Adrienne (Deron), Jessica (Ryan) and Kenneth; great-grandchildren, Ashla, Kayden, Damick, McCoy, Merick, Ragan, Audie, McKayson, Tyrek, Anastyn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy loved her family dearly. They will forever remember her as "Little, Gram, and Aunt Dot.” She made sure no one left her home without a cookie, a hug, and her commonly used farewell message, “Take care of yourself.” Although she will be deeply missed, she impacted the lives of many and was ready to be received by the loved ones who preceded her. The family would like to thank the Enhabit staff for their compassionate care and support over the past two weeks.
A visitation will be held at the Coalville Stake Center from 10-11:30 am on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. Private family by invitation only burial service to follow.
