June 22, 1940 — March 17, 2014

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Douglas Blaine Harrop returned home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, March 17 th at the age of 73.

Doug was born June 22 nd 1940 to Blaine Earl & Laura Allen Harrop.  He was raised in Huntsville Utah and graduated from Weber High School.  He served a LDS mission in New England.  On August 8 th 1962, he married the love of his life, Dianne Ahrens Harrop in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple.  Doug attended Weber State College and graduated from Arizona State University.

He was a Locomotive Engineer for the SP and UP railroads for 38 years.  He was a lifelong rail fan and his greatest hobby was taking pictures and writing stories about his train adventures.  He was published numerous times in train magazines.

With his athletic ability and love of sports, he played basketball, football and softball growing up.  He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan.  He also had a great appreciation for a wide variety of music.

Doug was active in the LDS church and served in many callings.  He was a High Priest instructor for the last 10 years and enjoyed this opportunity to teach. He had a love for and a strong testimony of the Savior.  He loved his family very much and we will miss his good advice, his grand stories and his quick wit.

Doug is survived by his caring wife, Dianne; his three children, Michael Harrop, Matthew (Kristin) Harrop, Heather (Hudd) Hayes.  Also seven grandchildren: Ashley, Jace, Josh, Benton, Jaxon, Heidi, Madison and a brother Greg Harrop.

The family would like to give a special thanks to CNS Hospice, Right at Home health and many friends and neighbors for their loving support and care.
