Francis Porter

December 14, 1914 — April 7, 2008

Francis E. Porter, age 93, passed away April 7, 2008, in Montpelier, Idaho. He was born December 14, 1914 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Warren Wight and Susan Lettie Florence Porter. His mother passed away when he was about 4 years old. Due to his mother's illness he was sent to live with his Uncle Octave and Aunt Lydia White for a time. He learned to work at an early age. He attended elemetary school in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School.

He married June Wilde Porter June 3, 1937, in the Salt Lake Temple. They set up housekeeping in Jap Camp, Devil's Slide, and then moved to Morgan in 1948. They had four children: a stillborn son, Pamela June. Francis Warren, and Dennis Ray.

Francis served in the CCC. worked on the railroad for a short time, was employed by the Red Devil Cement Company, Marquart, and the Morgan County School District. He has been active in community and church programs. He coached at Morgan High School during WWII for one year (a highlight in his life), served as city councilman, a scoutmaster, Little League and Pony League coach, and was an ardent fan of all Morgan High School sports. He received many honors and accolades from Morgan High School, which he deeply appreciated. He was named 2005 Utah Fan of the Year. He and his brother Harvey were selected as MVPs of the century of baseball team in Morgan on May 1, 2000. He held numerous positions in the LDS Church a�" scouting, teacher, ward and home teacher, secretary of stake High Priests, first Cubmaster in Morgan Stake, counselor in the Devil's Slide bishopric. He served as a temple worker at the Ogden Temple for many years. He lived a full and enjoyable life. He instilled a love of sports, especially baseball, in his posterity, a love of and for life, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and was particularly insistent that kindness be shown to others. He dearly loved the youth.

He is survived by four brothers: Harvey, La Mar, Lyle Kay, and Paul; his daughter, Pam and her husband Dale Weston; sons, Francis W. (Luke), and Dennis and his wife Lorraine; his beloved grandchildren Kevin and Stephanie Weston, Lyn and Heidi Weston, June Marie and Mikel Saxton, Valerie and Dallan Stephens, and Travis and Jana Porter; highly loved great-grandchildren Shannyn (Cody) Davis, Casey, Justy, and Tahnee June Saxton, Kaylee, Brittney, Morgan, and Shanaya, Weston, Lyndi, Whitlee, Porter, and Madyson Weston, Austin, Persephanie, Teaza, Kayle, and Xanalynne Stephens. Neil, Cora Ann, Emma June, and Adam Porter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Bertha Cook Porter; brother Mark, Le Roy, and Carlos; sisters Florence, Lottie, and Viola, and a grandson Lance Porter.

Funeral services will be held April 11, 2008 at 12 noon at the Morgan Stake Center. Friends and family may call Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, 45 W 200 N, from 6 a�" 8 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.

Interment, Coalville City Cemetery, Coalville, Utah.
