George Rhodes

George "Bud" Rhodes

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, George Forest (Bud) Rhodes, of Milton, Morgan, Utah, died January 5, 2010, of natural causes. A son of George Tunbridge and Maud Jensen Rhodes, Bud was born July 14, 1925, in Ogden, Utah. The family moved to Milton when he was two years old. Bud was educated in Morgan County Schools where he was active in athletics. He graduated May 1943. Bud earned an Associate's Degree at Weber State College.

Bud was called to serve his country in World Ward II. He was inducted into the army September 1943. He served in the Pacific Theatre in the Signal Corps and was part of the invasion of Japan. He was honorably discharged January 1946 with the rank of Master Sergeant.

He began working for Carrigan Motors, July 1946, as part of the Veterans' Training Program. In February 1960, he was scouted by State Farm Insurance and hired as an adjustor, in the then-new property damage department. He worked there, highly respected for 27 years, retiring as Superintendent of Claims in Northern Utah.

August 23, 1946, he married his sweetheart and life's companion, Barbara Joan Miller, of Morgan in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Milton where they reared their family in the home Bud built. His spare time was spent with family and friends hunting (as a member of the Ruptured Rangers), fishing, boating, camping, golfing, horses and gardening.

He was elected to the Morgan County Board of Education in the mid 1950s. He served eight yearsa�"seven of which were as president. He was a member of a Morgan County male choir called, "The Allegros." As active lifetime member of the LDS Church, he taught in MIA, Sunday School, Priesthood and Project Temple classes. He also served as Sunday School Counselor, Young Men President, Elder's Quorum President with the quorum comprised of all elders in what is now Morgan Utah North. Bud was bishop of the Milton ward for 11 years during which time the Milton Ward Building was built. As bishop he also served as project superintendent. He served seven years as a Morgan Utah Stake High Councilor. In September 1987, he was sustained as patriarch for the Morgan Utah North Stake.

He is survived his wife, Barbara, and four sons and two daughters: George (Joan) Rhodes, Edmonton, Canada; Ryan (Drew Herron) Rhodes, Los Angeles, CA; Rand (Teresa) Rhodes, Evanston, WY; JillAnn (Dwight) Israelsen, North Logan, UT; Ted Rhodes, Alpine, WY; and Suzanne (Steven) Earnshaw, Provo, UT; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Rhodes Blanch of Novato, CA.

The funeral will be held under the direction of Bishop Malan Johnson, on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Milton Ward Chapel at 12 Noon. A viewing will be held that morning from 10 am until 11:45 am.

Interment will be at the Milton Cemetery.
