Gerald (Jerry) Eccles Stout passed away peacefully in his home in Peterson, Utah on December 18, 2024. He was born to Woodruff and Luise Stout on September 1, 1942, and was the second of five children (Ronald, LaVon, Jolene, and LuAnn). He grew up in Bountiful, Utah where he graduated from Bountiful High School and then joined the Army Reserves. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint in Auckland, New Zealand from1962-1964. His mission had a profound impact on him, he grew to love the Māori people and shared his experiences throughout his life.
Jerry married Jerralyn Rigby (later divorced) on April 24, 1964 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had 11 children, both biological and adopted from all over the world - Jason (Kathy), David (LeeAnne), Angie (Mark), Evonne, Marc (Christine), Adam, Mindy (Todd), Kathy (Michael), Daniel (Shannon), Kristen, and Ana. He had 31 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and more to come. The Stout home also included children who were Native American Exchange students, foster children, refugees, and friends that became family. Later, Jerry married Marilyn Rodriguez on February 11, 1999. They lived in Bountiful to help care for Grandma Weeze and then made their home in Peterson.
Jerry’s dad taught him to work at a very young age. As a result, he was skilled in all areas of construction-building, carpentry, cement work, and operating machinery. He took pride in working from sunup to sundown, and he loved driving his dump truck and tractor to different sites and making friends with workers from all walks of life. Mostly, he loved working with his family. His dad taught him, he worked alongside of his big brother, and then he taught his boys as soon as they were big enough to go to work with Dad.
Jerry was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He enjoyed serving in various callings, but mostly enjoyed teaching Primary and Sunday School. He carried around a pocket full of Tootsie Rolls for the kids and would crack the same joke again and again by asking where the butter was when the secretary would deliver the attendance rolls. His commitment to his community was evident in the many lives he touched through kindness and service. Even in his later years, he could be found pushing snow with his tractor, running down the canyon to help a sibling, and serving his neighbors. He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, strong work ethic, and deep love for his community.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Woodruff and Louise; siblings, David, Ronald, and Barbara; sons, Adam, Marc, and Jonathan (foster); and son-in-law, Aaron, and step children Tina and Mitchel. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn,Britt and his other children and posterity.
The family would like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice, Dr. Kyle Fusselman, Dr. Tricia Ferrin, the members of the Peterson Ward, and the town of Peterson for the love and support they have shown Dad over the years.
