Our Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great- grandmother and friend, Gertrude Sophia Willoughby, 86, passed away March 12, 2012, due to congestive heart failure.
Gert was born on July 14, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Joseph Bailey and Sophia Mulholland Cost.
Gert attended Granite High School in Salt Lake City. She married Lyle Staley Willoughby on May 18, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah and shared 59 A½ years with him until his death in 2005. Together they had five children: Lylette of Coalville, Joe William (Charlotte) of Evanston, WY, Robert Grant of Coalville, Boyd E. (Charlotte) of Coalville, and DeLaun Lyle (Caroline) of Coalville. She is survived by her children, one sister Alice Koch of Oregon, one sister-in law, Ruth Cost of New Mexico, 18 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 40 great-grand children, eight step-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved very much.
Gert enjoyed photography, genealogy, history and crocheting; but most of all she loved being a grandma. Gert worked in the School Lunch Program for the North Summit School District and loved making cookies for everyone. She enjoyed Sunday dinners in her home with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, her parents, her brother "Bud" and a precious granddaughter, Melissa Willoughby. The family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the staff, nurses, and doctors of the Coalville Health Clinic, McKay Dee ER, and Family Tree of Morgan Assisted Living Center and for their years of dedicated care and compassion.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. at the Coalville Stake Center, 40 N Main Street, on Friday, March 16, 2012. Family and friends may call for a viewing at the Stake Center on Thursday, March 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m.
