Harvey J. Porter, 102, passed away Monday March 17, 2014 at the Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Morgan Utah.
Harvey was born July 12, 1911 in Salt Lake City to Warren W. and Susan L Florence Porter. He was raised in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School.
He married Faye Nielsen September 30, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active in all sports, he was a member of the Utah State Championship Semi-Pro baseball team from Devil’s Slide in 1940. In 2000 both he and his brother Francis Porter were named most valuable players on the Morgan County All-Century team.
He worked at Ideal Basic Industries (currently Holcim) for 41 years while living at Devil’s Slide. After his retirement he moved his family to Henefer where they lived until March of 2011 when he moved to the Family Tree Assisted Living Center where he lived until the time of his death.
For many years, while living in Henefer, he gave bubble gum to the local children. He was affectionately given the name “The Bubble Gum Man”. More than one generation of local children were able to know him through this activity.
He is survived by sons Larry Porter, Layton, Utah and Allen Porter, Morgan, Utah; one daughter Donna Porter, Ogden Utah; and a brother Paul Porter, Bountiful, Utah. Preceding him in death were his parents, six brothers, two sisters, two daughters: Barbara (Dale) Mountz; Peggy (Warren) Jones and a daughter-in-law Nancy (Larry) Porter. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 22, 2014 at 11 AM at the Morgan Stake Center (355 N 700 E). A public viewing will be held Friday March 21, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM at Walker Mortuary in Morgan (45 W 200 N) and Saturday prior to the services from 9:45 to 10:45 AM at the church.
Interment will be held at the North Morgan Cemetery.
