Hildegard Voigt

MORGAN – Hildegard Maria Voigt, age 87, passed away on Monday, March 31 ^st surrounded by her family.  Hildegard was born in Tuebingen, Germany on March 14, 1927 to loving parents Karl Gottlieb Eugen Juengling and Hilde Barbara (Fahrner).  Her brother Karl was two years older and they stayed close all their lives.

Hildegard grew up in war time Germany, seeing and experiencing many terrible things of that time and place, surviving that to become a very kind, cheerful, optimistic, gentle but absolutely strong woman all her life, and saw the good in just about everyone.  Even spiders and box elder bugs would be taken outside for a chance to live outdoors.  She loved little children and was a kindergarten teacher in Germany.

In the mid 1950’s Hildegard packed up her bags, hopped on a boat and came to the United States to learn English for a few years.  She found a job with a family who are beloved to her to this day:  Jessica, Pamela, Butch, and Monica, and their parents.  Two years later, her mother and brother also came and the family settled in Racine, Wisconsin where Hildegard had her only child, Sylvia and enjoyed many happy times with family and life-long friends, just a few blocks away from her brother and his wife Helga and their two girls, Ingrid and Karin.

Mom loved classical music and hymns, and was a very good artist, many happy family memories of searching the beach on Lake Michigan for the perfect rocks to paint.

In 1994, Hildegard was now a grandmother with three grandchildren, but the grandchildren lived in Utah, our Oma wanted to be closer to them, so moved to Morgan Utah.  Oma enjoyed the closeness and happiness of being with her grandchildren every day as they ran to her apartment for good food (the best) and good fun.  They decorated her apartment with strings and took walks every day.  Oma loved Morgan and the warm community, and worked at the elementary school as a recess lady, then was invited to help Mrs. Judd’s first grade class learn some German which Oma did for a few years.  In 2008 the family decided to all be under one roof, along with Oma’s little cat Boo, and moved a few miles down the road to Peterson, where again, Oma loved her friends and caring community.

And oh we loved her.  The loss is sudden and the house is empty.

Hildegard is survived by her daughter, Sylvia (Steve) Lyon, her grandchildren, Richard Karl (Jessica) Lyon, Susanna (Daniel) Quick, and Katharine Maria Lyon who is serving an LDS mission in Zambia, Africa.  Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, and her dear brother.

Funeral services are on Saturday, April 5 ^th , 2014 at 11:00 am at the LDS Rock Church, 10 W. Young Street, Morgan Utah, with visitation directly preceding at 9:30am to 10:45am also at the Rock Church.   Interment at the South Morgan cemetery.
