Irene Lucy Garner Mortenson
MORGAN-Irene Lucy Garner Mortenson 69, returned to her Father in Heaven on June 27, 2008. She was born July 14, 1938 in Ogden, Utah to Virgil and Bernice Young Garner. She was raised in Ogden and later moved to Morgan where she became a cheerleader for two years. She graduated from Morgan High School and LDS Seminary. On May 25, 1956 she was married and sealed for Time and all Eternity to her sweetheart, Billy J. Mortenson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Irene loved to travel coast to coast with her husband in their motor-home. They also enjoyed camping, fishing and four wheeling trips with her family. She was very active in her LDS faith and served in, many callings and presidencies, including the Relief Society and Young Women programs, and Visiting Teacher. She loved genealogy and the blessings of the temple. She loved to make crafts and cook for others. She always had a good meal ready for anyone and everyone. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She shared her love and talents with others and served them endlessly.
She worked as a waitress in her youth at The Wheel and Trout Springs in Mtn. Green where she met her sweetheart, Billy. She later worked at Rosie's in West Virginia while her husband was stationed in the Army. She later worked for Browning Arms in Mt. Green where she stayed for 32 years and then retired.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Billy J. Mortenson of Morgan, Daughter Trina Kay (Steve) Hinds of Riverdale and Son, Cory Jay (Julie) Mortenson of Cedar City, four grandchildren, Lyndzi (Jacob) Elsmore of Midvale, Heidi (T.J.) Ralphs of South Ogden, Brodi Hinds of Riverdale, Kheston Mortenson of Cedar City, and seven step-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and six sisters, Richard (Janice) Garner, Kevin (Debbie) Garner, Ronnie Garner, Sharon (Tom) Dolan, Shirley Kay (Lowell) Schmidt all of Ogden; Mary Ann (Bob) Jones of Idaho; Julie (Alan) Bennett of Oregon; Deloris (Tom) Hemming of Morgan.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Rodney Garner, Teresa Garner, an infant brother; Father and Mother-in-Law, Parley and Edith Jasper Mortenson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Enterprise Chapel, 2755 W. Old Hwy Rd. with Bishop Wayne Miller of the Enterprise ward officiating. Friends and Family may call at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment, South Morgan Cemetery.
