Morgan

James “Jim” Dale Johnston passed away August 25, 2020, with his family by his side.

Jim was born March 1, 1935, to Robert Douglas Johnston and Ruby Irene Richins, while they were living in Devil’s Slide.

Dad is survived by wife, Donna Vee Johnston; Children: Ron (Julie) Johnston; Cindy (Jim) Sorley, and Doug (Nikki) Johnston; along with his ten grandchildren, whom he adored, Robbie, Camron, Katie, Steven, Thomas, Jeremy, Nicholas, Chelsea, Riley, Mckenna.  Dad also had several great grandchildren.

Dad loved his years growing up in Devils Slide creating memories that included raising rabbits to climbing the mountain to get radio reception on his radio to be able to listen to Dodger games.

Dad was known around town for his miniature cabin making, paintings, and for his love of baseball.  He was a big fan of the Utah Jazz and the Colorado Rockies.

Dad was a very talented baseball pitcher.  He played on teams from Devils Slide, Morgan High, and Weber State College, where he pitched the only no-hitter in the history of Weber State College.  He went on to play ball for the Delta Blues, semi-pro team in Colorado. It was while he was in Colorado, where he met his first wife, Joan Eleanor Clark.  They were later divorced.

Dad met and married Donna Vee Bowen from Coalville, UT.  They lived their entire life in Morgan, with their marriage lasting nearly 50 years.

Dad served his country in the United States Army where he was a dog handler during the Korean Conflict.

In his later years, Dad was selected to be a member of the All Century Baseball Team in Morgan, UT.  He was proud of that.

On behalf of Dad and our family, we would like to sincerely thank those at the Family Tree Assisted Living Home that assisted dad for the last few years.  Especially Dr. Holland and his team.  Dad really loved the people there.
