James Boyd Padgett

December 29, 1950 — May 13, 2024

Coalville

Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, James Boyd Padgett, age 73, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, May 13th .

Born in East Carbon, Utah on December 29, 1950 to Oscar & Nellie Padgett.

He spent his childhood years in East Carbon hunting the hills and riding horses. His family moved to West Valley City when he was in high school, where he found a love for baseball. He was the All-State pitcher for Granger High graduating in 1969. Baseball took him to Dixie College where he continued to play ball while he was there.

He then joined the Local IBEW 57 union where he had much success and made many lifelong friends in his career.

His favorite passion in life was always horses. Whether it was riding, training, chariot racing, or anything to do with horses that involved a winner. He created a family legacy centered around horses and his love for them. He brought his sons under his wing to help ride, train, and become the 3 time World Chariot Champions. This gave him so much pride.

If he wasn’t with his horses, you could find him with a fishing pole in his hand. Schofield Reservoir was where it began in his own childhood, and where he continued to bring his own kids and grandkids. He taught us all that the “BIG LUNKER” is the only one to keep. FISH ON!!!!

His heart belonged to his one and only, Louise. They met at Delton Bowling Lanes and the rest has been history. He provided a life for them that has been filled for 50 years. They shared hard times, best times, and at the end you would never see one without the other.

He is survived by his wife, Louise (Coalville). His sons: Gary (Cindy) Coalville; Todd (Lorie) Herriman; Jimmy (Renee) New Waverly, TX; His daughters: Stephanie (Tobias)Fenton, Tooele; Kelli (Matt) Bang, Taylorsville; Heidi (Chris) VanHouten, Vernal; His brothers: Larry, West Valley; Brett (Becky) West Valley; Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love their Grandpa Jim.

Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar & Nellie Padgett and in-laws, Newel & Barbara Linford.
