Dad was awesome, talented, and kind. Anyone who ever worked with him would attest to his work ethic. "Hard Worker" has been a description of dad time and time again. He turned his work and talents into a cabinet making business after working at Ideal Cement plant for years.
He married twice in his life. He was married to Merrilee Turner and had four children: Heather (Mike) Maloney, Jess (Camille) Hopkin, Sara (Cory) Soehl, and Joe (Tori) Hopkin. After they divorced, he married Lynda Woolsey Ware and began again to develop relationships of family, love, and again, hard work. Marrying Lynda brought two more children to Dad, Mike (Kristy) Ware and Christie Mikesell (Keith) Anderson. His heart was big enough to love everyone in this group which eventually brought him 26 grandchildren in all. And we all loved him back.
Surviving are all his children, grandchildren, brother Steve (Shelly) Hopkin, and sisters Jackie (Dale) Dawson, Stephanie Nance, and Debbie Evans. Jay was preceded in death by his parents John Rawle Hopkin and Nora Howard Ellis, and sister Saundra Peterson.
Dad has a lot of hard work ahead of him. . .that's perfect for him.
Funeral services will be held at the Morgan Stake Center on Friday, May 31 at 1pm. A viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary Thursday night, May 30 from 6-8 and Friday from 11:45-12:45 at the church.
