Joan Smith

Joan Eleanor Clark Smith, 70, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday, August 03, 2008 after beating cancer and fighting a long illness since 2003.

She was born on January 27, 1938 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Dwight W. and Helen Walsh Clark. She married James D. Johnston and was later divorced. She married CMSgt Winifred (Win) Jeffries Smith on September 9, 1973 in Elko Nevada. During their marriage, they were stationed in both Zaragoza and Madrid, Spain and Columbus, Mississippi. They retired in Roy, Utah. After Win died of cancer in 2000, Joan moved to Morgan, Utah and opened Front Street Variety. She worked at Hill Air Force Base, the Army Corp. of Engineers, Defense Depot Ogden, and retired from Hill Air Force Base. .

She is survived by her two precious poodles, Bubba and Sweety; three children, Ron (Julie) Johnston of Morgan, Cindy (Jim) Sorley of Layton and Doug (Tawna) Johnston of Riverton, Utah. Two sisters, Patricia (Barney) Poole of Colorado, and Darlene (John) Garnish of Colorado. Grandchildren Rob (Brandee) Johnston, Camron (fiancAC.e Ely Smith) Johnston, Katie Johnston, Steven Sorley, Thomas Sorley, Jeremy Johnston, Nicholas (Cayce) Johnston, Chelsea Johnston, Riley Johnston, McKenna Johnston, Tara (Kyle West, Stefani (Joe) Morris . Great grandchildren, Gabriel Johnston, Ethan West, Paxton West, Brynn West, and Kaden Washburn. She was preceded in death by grandson Jeffrey Sorley, her parents, and her husband, Win.

A memorial service will be held at Walker Mortuary in Morgan on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Berwald and his nurse Marta, Dr. Sonny Hollingsworth and his staff at Copperview Medical, Crosslands Care Center and her dear friend Leslie there. The family would also like to thank the caregivers from Hearts For Home Heath, especially Lei Salanoai.
