JoAnn Ball Bernick, age 56, died peacefully at home on December 19, 2009, while surrounded by her family after a valiant four year battle with cancer.
She was born October 3, 1953 to Joseph Newell Ball and Betty Kippen Ball of Morgan, Utah. JoAnn was raised in Morgan and graduated from Morgan High School in 1971, and then attended WSC for four years. She married Michael F. Bernick on June 23, 1978 in Morgan, Utah and was the loving mother of two children, Brittney (18) and Michael (16) Bernick. She devoted herself to her children and would do anything for them.
JoAnn loved children and had a large collection of children's books. She will be remembered for her eagerness at her kid's soccer games, her love of Christmas and her delight in board games, cards and Pictionary. Christmas celebrations and parties were her favorites. Boating with her family at Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge and the San Juan Islands created memories that will last an eternity. She especially enjoyed the Oregon and Washington coast and was always ready to travel. JoAnn worked at Weber State University for 31 years. She was a member of the LDS church. Inseparable from her husband and family in life, she will be missed but never forgotten.
JoAnn is survived by her husband Michael and her children Brittney and Michael. The third of four children she is also survived by her brother John Ball of Washington Terrace, her sister Billie Bennett of Layton and her sister Nancy (Paul) Smith of Farmington as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the South Morgan Cemetery. Honoring her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects to her and greet the family from 11:30 to 12:30 at the Walker Mortuary, 45 W 200 N, in Morgan. The family wishes to thank family, friends, neighbors, doctors and the many individuals who have helped JoAnn the last four years.
