JoAnn Lovell Smith, 88, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
She was born in Oak City, Utah, on August 9, 1933, to Allen and Virginia Lyman Lovell. She attended schools in Caliente, Nevada; North Davis Jr High; and Davis High School, where she graduated in 1951.
JoAnn is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including: Relief Society president, Young Women president, teacher in all organizations, and was a faithful visiting teacher. From 1993 to 1994, she served as a full-time missionary in the California San Bernadino Mission. JoAnn also participated in several civic organizations. She served as president of the Sunset Elementary PTA , president of the Morgan County DUP, and was a member of the Morgan County Historical Society.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Kent Smith, by her son Greg Smith, her grandson Landon Smith, as well as her parents, one sister, and three brothers.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Deborah (Greg); her sons Rodger (Marjalee), Stuart (Carol), Bret (Pamela), Bart (Sharon), Kirk (Lana), Matt (Tonya); her daughter, Suzanne (Lance); 45 grandchildren; 80 great-grandchildren; her sister Dorothy Lovell, and her brother David Lovell.
JoAnn loved her family and loved spending time with them individually and as a group. She spent many summers traveling with her grandchildren, sharing her love of country, family, and history, all while creating cherished memories. She also loved Mountain Green and the people in her ward and neighborhood.
The family would like to express their love and gratitude to all of those who were a part of JoAnn’s life, especially those who helped care for her as she prepared to make the transition from this life to the next.
A viewing will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Highlands Ward Chapel, 5378 West Old Highway Road, Mountain Green, UT.
A viewing will also be held at the Highlands Ward Chapel on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am, with the funeral following at 11:00 am. Interment will be at the Mountain Green Cemetery.
