John Brian Carter, 33, died August 24, 2008 in a plane crash, along with ten others, in Guatemala while on a humanitarian service project. John was born March 17, 1975 to Ivan and LuDene Carter, of Morgan, Utah. He is the youngest of nine children. John was raised in Morgan where he also attended school. While at Morgan High School he played defender on the soccer team. John loved the outdoors, all sports, and anything daring or adventurous.
John served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Knoxville, Tennessee. He served in his ward and community in various capacities and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.
In November, 1997 John married his sweetheart, Lisa Carver of Layton, Utah in the Salt Lake Temple. They worked together to get John through school and start a family. They were blessed with three children: Ethan, 9; Ashton, 5; and Averie, 3. John was a great husband and dad. He loved to play games with the kids and teach them of all the things that were important to him. He taught them how to snowboard, how to play soccer, and even dance.
John graduated from Weber State University in Information Systems and Technology in 2003. He graduated magna summa laude and was awarded the Outstanding Graduate in Information Systems and Technologies at the Goddard Business. After school, John went to work for his hero, President John Porter, at Focus International, Inc. as their network administrator. He loved the people he worked with and the great environment there. It was through Focus that John learned of the wonderful service opportunities with CHOICE Humanitarian, Inc. and volunteered to go to Guatemala and work to build schools and improve lives. He was thrilled to have the chance to go. John was always busy with projects at work and at home but he would sacrifice his own comforts, interests, and time to give a better life to others.
John was gifted with his mind and hands. He was a great carpenter and cabinet maker and a "fixer-upper". He built a beautiful home for his family and was always willing and happy to help any family, friend or person in need.
John was preceded in death by his brother Roger, and his nephew Roger Shane.
John is survived by his wife Lisa, and children: Ethan, Ashton , and Averie; his parents, Ivan and LuDene; brothers: Michael (Tori) of Mountain View, WY; Dave (Lorna); Bob (Pam); Kent (Cindy); Shawn (Melanie) all of Morgan, UT; and sisters, Becky Roberts of Twin falls, ID and Sue Pink of Syracuse, UT; father and mother-in-law, Steven and Patricia Carver of Layton, UT.
