Kathryn Whittier

MORGAN - Our wonderful mother and grandmother, Kathryn Whittier, passed away at her home October 21, 2010.

Kathryn was born in Morgan, Utah on January 12, 1926, the daughter of Curtis and Thelma Rogers. Her childhood was idyllic with lots of love...lots of fun, a wonderful family life. She graduated from Morgan High School. Her love for music began in high school as she played the saxophone in award-winning concert, marching and dance bands. She graduated from Weber State College with high honors and later graduated from Brigham Young University as the Valedictorian with degrees in Elementary Education and English.

Kathryn was chosen the Morgan Centennial Queen in 1947. She was always very proud of her pioneer ancestry, especially of being the great-granddaughter of Aurelia Rogers, founder of the Primary. She was very patriotic and proud to be an American.

Kathryn was an outstanding elementary school teacher in Morgan, Salt Lake and Davis Counties. She had a lifelong love of working with and teaching children.

She was married to Robert Whittier in the Salt Lake Temple on May 30, 1951. They were blessed with five children; Dianne Foote (San Jose, CA), Scott Whittier (Orem), Lynne Sanderson (Bountiful), Colleen Sullivan (Layton), and David Whittier (Morgan), of whom they are very proud. Kathryn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and hosted many family gatherings with delicious dinners. She always valued education and encouraged each of her children to study and achieve. She always inspired her children to seek the good in life and to seek righteous pursuits.

Kathryn was a member of the Culturette Club and Literary Club. She served as the Chairman of the Morgan County Library Board.

Kathryn was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions during her life. She always loved music and served many years as the Sunday School coordinator and chorister. She loved her calling as the pianist in the Relief Society.

Kathryn is survived by her children; four sisters and one brother: Pauline McQuown (Salt Lake City), Marjorie Tueller (Bountiful), Bernell Rogers (Torrance, CA), Florence Sowell (Pocatello, ID), Sherolyn Jenkins (Morgan). She has 14 grandchildren; Kathryn, Melanie, Ashley, John, and Jennifer Sullivan, Julia and Claire Sanderson, Alex and Courtney Whittier, Jacob and Nicholas Hess, and Kristen, Markus and Andrew Foote.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, at 12 noon in the Morgan Stake Chapel in Morgan, UT. Friends and family may call at the Walker Mortuary in Morgan, Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday at the church from 10:45 to 11:45 am.

Interment, South Morgan Cemetery.
