Larry Keith Johanson was born on February 2, 1949 to Keith and Grace Johanson in Sacramento CA. One year later, they relocated back to Morgan Utah, and he lived in a three- house radius of his original home for the rest of his life.
He attended the Morgan Schools through high school. He was active in the high school activities. He was a member of the Morgan High School jazz band under Dean Pace. Their band took 1st in a national jazz band competition, and he was really proud of that accomplishment. He attended Utah State University, and then after returning from his mission, he graduated from Weber State University where he received his bachelor's degree in Zoology with a minor in Psychology.
He met "his angel" Arlys Judd in November of 1970, and they were married on April 5, 1972. They were married 52 years. Larry and Arlys had 5 beautiful daughters, Melanie Peterson (Michael), Amy Woolstenhulme (Garrett), Leanne Jones (TJ), Lyndzee Toone (Casey), and Ashley Farr (Tim). They have 9 granddaughters, and 8 grandsons. In addition, they were blessed with one great-granddaughter, Haizley Woolstenhulme. He always felt his family was his greatest success!
Larry taught science in the Roy School District (one year) and in the Morgan School District (3 years). He used to joke that it only took 4 years to teach the kids everything he knew. Larry was President and owner of Telesis and was the author and teacher of that concept. He received his CLU and ChFC in the insurance business where he worked for more than 20 years. Later, he worked for Skyview Excavation, and then for Wardell Brothers.
In addition, he was a wonderful general contractor, and woodworker where he created beautiful pieces of art. He loved hunting, camping, skiing in his younger years and was a true outdoorsman. He loved going up Spring Canyon. He loved teaching his children, grandchildren and others, but especially proper firearms safety and hunting protocols. In 2012 Larry and Arlys purchased a Goldwing motorcycle. They spent the next 10+ years traveling with 2 other special couples throughout the West. They traveled more than 20,000 miles seeing the beauty of America.
Larry loved America and was a true patriot. He spent many hours studying, listening and learning about the constitution. It was a favorite subject of discussion with his friends.
Larry served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Sydney North Australia mission in 1968-70. He held dear his Aussie blokes. They met annually for a golf tournament, lunch and dinner regaling each other with their mission experiences, and enjoying camaraderie. He loved the people of Australia and kept track of those he baptized. He also loved toast and vegemite!
Larry was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the gospel with all his heart. His favorite calling was teaching the Gospel Doctrine class, and he did that for many years. In the last years of his life, he was the membership clerk for the Morgan 3rd Ward.
He also had high school friends that met annually to reminisce and enjoy one another's company. He treasured those high school friends, and he was diligent in keeping in contact with those friends.
Over the last few years his health began deteriorating. He had many wonderful doctors and nurses that took care of him. He was so grateful for their care. The family would also like to thank the Intermountain Health Hospice for their loving care in the last few weeks of his life.
Larry is preceded in death by his father and mother, and his sister, Jennifer, along with his beloved horse, Buck. He was looking forward to meeting his Uncle Jay Lythgoe who was killed in World War II. He was also looking forward to reuniting with his Grandpa and Grandma Lythgoe.
