Bremerton, WA - Lela Creager Richins Stout passed away March 4, 2010 of congestive heart failure at Montclair Assisted Living in Poulsbo where she lived for just 6 weeks. Prior to that, she had lived at Claremont East in Bremerton for 5 years. She spent the last 7 of her 88 years coping with dementia.
Lela was born Sept. 2, 1921 to Ira Ottobine Creager and Viney May Carter in Morgan, Utah. She is survived by 2 brothers and 1 sister; Elmo Creager of Ogden, UT, Wendell (Lucy) Creager of Buckeye, AZ and Thelda Pomeroy of Ogden, UT. 2 other sisters, Bernice and Vera, predeceased her. She is also survived by a very special "daughter-like" niece Linda (Thomas) Hansen of Poulsbo, WA and her grand nephew David Thompson of LA. She has numerous other nieces and nephews.
Lela married Joseph W. Richins in 1939 and they moved to Bremerton where Joe could find work at PSNS. Lela became a telephone operator with Pacific NW Bell where she had a monumental career lasting 28 years. In 1973 she married Frank W. Stout. They became interested in genealogy and traveled extensively searching out their roots. Lela also became active in Ladies of Elks and eventually served as President for a year. She loved being involved with her community. She worked the voting polls as a volunteer, was active in her church and made many friends everywhere. She loved to travel, play cards, crochet and most of all quilt where her work was admired by many.
It was her wish to be buried next to her 1st husband Joe in Morgan, UT. Graveside services will be at South Morgan Cemetery on Thursday, Mar. 18, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. Viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel, Bremerton and Walker Mortuary, Morgan, UT. Remembrance donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap Co.
