LuDene Bowen Carter

September 8, 1932 — October 12, 2024

Morgan

LuDene Bowen Carter, 92, was reunited with her eternal sweetheart on October 12, 2024 surrounded by family.

She was born on September 8, 1932 in Logan, Utah. She was the third of four daughters born to Asel Carlos and Elva Everton Bowen. Her mother died when she was 2 years-old after which her father married Euelda Misner. She was blessed with two more sisters. LuDene spent most of her childhood in Idaho but moved to Morgan, Utah when she was 12 years-old. In Morgan she met the love of her life, Ivan Edward Carter. They were married on August 3, 1949, in the Logan LDS Temple. Ivan passed away in 2020 after 71 wonderful years together. They were blessed with 9 children: Roger (deceased), Susan (LeRoy), Mike (Tori), David (Lorna), Bob (Pam), Kent (Cindy), Becky, Shawn (Jen), John (deceased) (Lisa Reeder).

LuDene and Ivan spent their life together in Morgan. She was always busy helping on the farm, raising kids, gardening, canning, baking, making candy, sewing, reupholstering furniture, crocheting, making ceramics, house remodeling, and anything else that needed to be done. She cooked many meals for farm workers, friends, and family. There was always room at her table for anyone who dropped by or just happened to be there at mealtime. She was also a cook at Morgan Elementary School for many years. During the past few years, she has sewn hundreds of burp cloths for the humanitarian center.

She enjoyed the time she spent swimming with the “Noodlettes”. She loved the friendships that she developed with these sweet ladies and was sad when her declining health made it impossible for her to continue swimming with them. LuDene was also active in the Morgan company of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was proud of her pioneer heritage.

LuDene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many callings including: Primary, Relief Society, ministering, and 3 generations of cub scouts. She served a mission with her sweetheart in Utica, New York where they made many lifelong friends. LuDene and Ivan were also ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple for 14 years.

LuDene and her sisters learned to rely on each other from an early age. They developed an unbreakable bond that lasted the rest of their lives. They frequently brought their families together to visit and play. The day usually included lots of barbecued chicken and LuDene would make green pineapple ice cream and root beer. They also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping together.

She was an amazing woman who blessed the lives of all who knew her. She loved serving others and always showed kindness, compassion, and friendship. LuDene was a fun, spunky mom with a great sense of humor that helped her survive raising 7 sons and 2 daughters.

She is survived by sisters Dorothy Bennett and Afton Thomas, sister-in-law Mildred Fawcett, 7 children, 33 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews who love her dearly.

LuDene was preceded in death by her parents, her sweetheart, two sons, Roger and John (whom she has missed dearly for many years), sisters Gwen, Barbara, and Donna, and grandson Roger Shane.
