Mabel Margaret Crouse Crouch, daughter of Thomas H. and Ethel Salt Crouse, was born January 4, 1925 in Elbert, Colorado. She died April 24, 2010, after a short illness. As both of Mabel's parents died before she was 8 years old, she and her brother Albert were reared by her two older sisters, Leona Crouse Trees and Evelyn Crouse Rogers, and two older brothers, Thomas Crouse and Benjamin Crouse. The family lived in several small towns in western Colorado, depending upon where the older siblings could find employment, enabling them to keep the family together. Mabel also had a younger sister, Catherine Crouse, who died in early childhood. During her teenage years she lived with Weltha Mae Albright who provided loving care and introduced her to the Christian Science religion which Mabel studied and remained a student of throughout her life.
In the early 1940s, Mabel moved to Utah to work at Hill Air Force Base. It was there that she met Wayne Crouch. They were married June 12, 1943, and a short time later moved to Kaysville, Utah, where they lived for many years before moving to Morgan, Utah. Mabel was a loving mother to her five children: Diana Crouch Williams (Benne), Judy Crouch Ousley, Ron Crouch (Elizabeth), Jeanne Crouch (Leslie), and Jan Crouch Johnson. Mabel is remembered by her children as a fun-loving mom who fostered independence in her children. She loved music and was always singing. Mabel taught herself to cook and sew and encouraged and helped her children to also learn those skills. She was very creative and willing to take on any project, from hand-braiding rugs to making homemade chocolates for the holidays. Mom always took time to look her best and had a great sense of style.
Mabel's eight grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Tiffany, Amy, Todd, Sunny, Beau, and Cameron, will always remember a fun-loving grandma who made them laugh and was always willing to play a game, host a tea party, or dance with them to "The Ugly Bug Ball". Mabel was great-grandmother to 11 great- grandchildren.
In the mid 1960s, Mabel and Wayne moved to the family ranch in Croydon, Utah. Mabel often shared in work in the alfalfa fields as well as managing the household. She loved the serenity and beauty of country living and every wild animal she ever met. Wayne passed away April 25, 1999, and Mabel continued to live and manage the ranch until 2008. She currently resided at the Cottage at Legacy House in Bountiful, Utah, where everyone knew and loved her. We express our thanks to the staff at the Cottage and for their loving care.
