COALVILLE a" Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Metta Blonquist Richins passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at her home in Coalville.
Metta was born October 18, 1918 to Jacob Clifford and Mary Pyrah Blonquist in Coalville, Utah. She graduated from North Summit High School. She married Ellis Richins April 23, 1938.
Metta was a very unique lady. She was hard-working and leaves a great legacy of stalwartness and getting the job done. Metta lost the love of her life Ellis Richins November 22, 1965, leaving her to care for her five boys and the sheep operation. She lived 43 years as a widow. She was very involved in th sheep industry where she made many lifetime friends. She won the Sheep Rancher of the Year Award (the first woman to ever receive this award) by the Utah Wool Growers Association. She was President of the Utah State Wool Growers Auxiliary and also the Summit County Wool Growers Auxiliary. She cooked and served many lamb suppers and helped with the Make it with Wool Contest for many years. She also served on the Farm Services Committee until the time of her death and as a secretary of the Summit County Lamb Pool.
She was a member of the LDS Church and would have celebrated her 90th birthday next month.
Metta was a member of the North Summit Senior Citizens and really enjoyed her association there. Metta prepared Thanksgiving dinner for many years until her home would no longer hold all the family members. She loved Christmas and the annual family Christmas party. She loved buying and especially giving.
Metta had many dear friends. Her door was always open and everyone loved to visit. We loved her quick wit, her potato salad, and her spine straightening advice.
Metta is survived by five sons: Jerrold (Carla Dee), Dayle (Janeen), Kay (Sharon), Robert (Wendy), and James (Marva), 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Kathleen Blonquist and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband Ellis, two sisters, Lela and Eliza, brother Clifton, and a great-granddaughter Alex. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to those thoughtful individuals who have rendered any assistance during Metta's illness. Your kindness is deeply appreciated.
