Michael Lynn Shope, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and best friend, was born September 13, 1962 and passed away on November 12, 2022.
There were so many layers and lifetimes Mike lived that a simple passage couldn’t contain all the amazing things he did and the lives he touched. Mike was a kind, loving, charismatic man and had a personality that was larger than life. He was a great leader to work for, fun to work with and always brought out the best in people. He was loved by many and loved so many in return. Mike was easy to talk to, and had the ability to make everyone feel seen; like they had a genuine friend.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman. His greatest passion was hunting, fishing, and everything that went with it. He would spend months in the mountains with his brother Kevin, and close friends scouting and hunting. When it wasn’t hunting season, Mike could still be found camping with his family, riding 4-wheelers and side-by-sides, fishing on the river, or sitting by the fire.
Family was everything to Mike, he loved family parties and game nights. He always had the most enthusiasm and the least amount of skill when playing board games or sports. Mike was a terrible liar at strategy or mystery games, but always went above and beyond with his costumes. No matter how old he was or how much his body hurt, he would still dive for the volleyball or play with the grandkids. He took time to check in with every family member and made sure no one sat alone at a party.
Mike’s best friend and love of his life was his wife, Teresa. They were each other's greatest advocates and the two of them did everything together. Even though they lived through many trials and tribulations during their 23 years of marriage, their love for each other was a love so strong that even time would have stood still for.
Although Mike was surrounded by a large and loving support system, he battled with physical and mental ailments. Ultimately he succumbed to these personal struggles.
Michael is preceded in death by his father Steven. He is survived by his wife, Teresa; brother, Kevin (Angie); mother, Patty; seven children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
An informal memorial will be held in celebration of his life on Friday, November 18th, 2022. Friends and family are invited to attend the open house from 6 to 8 pm at Bar W Lodge (4175 N Morgan Valley Dr.) in Morgan, UT.
On the topic of flowers and donations, the family request your resources be used for connecting with your own family and loved ones in honor of Mike.
