Phil Toone

"Papa Phil" AKA Phillip Anderson Toone, age 66, joined his eternal family on August 27, 2010 surrounded by his earthly family. Phil was the second of seven children born to Maurine Anderson and Joseph William Toone on May 11, 1944 in Coalville, Utah. Phil grew up in Croydon on the family dairy farm. He learned the value of hard work early in life by milking 30 dairy cows twice a day. There was always plenty of work to go around. It was a good life! While attending Morgan schools, Phil was an All-State Football player. He loved playing the tuba and marched in many parades. He was an All-State tuba player and won many contests. He was a member of 4-H and FFA champ crop judging teams. He was a state champion wrestler. Phil was one of two people from Morgan to be selected to play in the National FFA band in Kansas City, Missouri.

Phil attended Utah State University on a football scholarship where he played defensive tackle for two years. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree and became an Industrial Arts teacher for 10 years. Loving the wide open country, Phil was then hired on with Utah DOT at the maintenance station in Echo. He studied obnoxious weed control and pushed tons of snow. He retired in 1999. While attending college, Phil met his sweetheart Sheila Marlene Goodsell. On February 11, 1967 they "tied the knot". Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan temple.

"Papa Phil" loved "Sweet, Sweet Sheila" and their 8 beautiful children. He was a proud father and grandpa. The Toone farm in Croydon would be the perfect place to raise his own family. He supported his wife and children in their many diversified talents and interests. The months were filled with football games, wrestling tournaments, cheerleading and dance programs. Phil trained the children in 4H champion beef cows, Suffolk lambs, and New Zealand white rabbits.

Although a busy man, Phil still had time for "his" hobbies and for eating a fish sandwich at Burger King 6 days a week. He loved hunting most anything, swimming, motorcycling, snowmobiling, silver sneakers, and Ham radio (KB7PCU) Phil. He loved riding up Toone Canyon on the 4 wheeler, giving his family rides, and special trips to China Town. For many years he enjoyed playing Santa Claus for various church Christmas functions Phil's rich, colorful life included many people. Phil was a loving brother and uncle, he deeply cared for his sisters, he enjoyed his nieces and nephews and they adored him.

After retirement Phil enjoyed being a paper-boy for Round Valley, Taggarts, Croydon, Echo, and Henefer.

Phil was active in the LDS church. He will be remembered as a faithful, dedicated, priesthood holder who magnified each calling. He loved his home teaching assignment, cleaning job at the Rock Church, and especially the wonderful people whom he served. Great blessings came as he served on the High Council and Stake Missionary assignments. Phil truly believes that "Families Can Be Together Forever".

Phil is survived by his wife of 43 A½ yrs. Sheila Marlene Goodsell. Children: Zalinda Lanette Weeks (Matthew), Shane Phillip Toone (Traci Worthington), Teresa Marlene Riter (Marc), Natalie Fern Laramie (Mitch), Nathan Michael Toone (Tiffanie Dicks), Tiffanie Spring Toone, Kenneth Jacob Toone, Jessica Megan Espinoza (Ernesto). 18 grandchildren, 3 wonderful sisters: Carol Bradshaw, Shawna Carmichael (Robert), and Julie Hammer (DeVon) and Sister-In-Law Lurene Toone.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents Maurine Anderson and Joseph William Toone, brother: Joseph Wilford Toone, two sisters: "Glo" Gloria Toone and Linda Toone. Papa Phil, you are loved dearly and will be missed by all.

Family and friends may call Friday September 3 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. for a viewing at Walker Mortuary in Morgan 45 W. 200 N. Saturday, a short viewing will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Morgan Rock Church at 11 South State before the Funeral to be held Saturday, September 4, at 12:00 noon.
