Richard Richins

May 16, 1934 — September 4, 2008

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, Richard L Richins passed away on September 4, 2008. Richard was born to William Harrison and Amelda Richins on May 16, 1934. He will be greatly missed by his wife Ruth McQueen, whom he married on May 12, 1956 at Bryan Air Force Base, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children and spouses: Layne and Jane, Russell and Marey, Ryan and Tosha; and ten grandchildren.

Richard enjoyed an exciting 20 year career in the Air Force as a fighter pilot retiring, with the rank of Major. He was checked-out in over 20 types of jet aircraft and trained foreign pilots from 26 different countries. He was stationed overseas in Korea ('65-'66), Vietnam ('69-'70) and concluded his career as a test pilot at Edwards AFB, California. He continued his career as a test pilot at Northrop for seven years.

In 1980, he moved to Echo, Utah to build his dream house and work on his ranch. Richard's love and passion for life, family, friends, country and community motivated him all his life.

Some of his many accomplishments, other than his service to his country, were to serve on the Mosquito Abatement District for 20 years, coach the girls and boys little league basketball teams, be one of North Summit High School's all-time loudest boosters, and teach welding at Weber State University. He was a teacher, mentor and counselor to many. He was a conservationist, a naturalist, and a philosopher - but most of all - a wonderful, loving man and father. When he wasn't playing in the dirt with his heavy equipment, farming or ranching, he could be found playing golf, telling war stories or spending time with family and friends. His loving way touched many and will be missed by all.

There will be a memorial service Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 12 Noon at the Henefer LDS Ward Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
