He attended schools in Peterson and Morgan and was the Student Body President at Morgan High School. He played saxophone in award-winning concert, marching and dance bands.

They have been blessed with five children; Dianne Foote (San Jose, California), Scott Whittier (Orem), Lynne Sanderson (Bountiful), Colleen Sullivan (Layton), and David Whittier (Morgan), of whom they are very proud. They are Bob's treasures. Bob was a devoted father and grandfather. He valued education and encouraged each of his children to study and to achieve. Bob inspired his children to seek always the good and righteous things in life.
Bob was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served on the Stake High Council in Orlando and Pensacola, Florida, and as gospel doctrine teacher and Sunday School President in several branches and wards of the church.
