Robert (Bob) Earl Wilson passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend was surrounded by family as he went to meet his loving Heavenly Father, finally released from pain.
Bob was born to Leroy Wilson and Amy Alicia Seelos on August 8, 1931, in Pocatello, Idaho. His family later moved to Coalville in 1940 where he grew up with his sister and many close friends. Bob’s mother later married Theadore (Toby) Shaw. Bob likes to talk about Toby as the one who raised him.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Jean Dearden on October 20, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five wonderful children: Sheryl (Greg) Murdock, JanaLee (Lynn) Clifford, Robert (Donna) Wilson, Kelly (Leisa) Wilson, and Kyle Wilson. Shirley’s health declined and she later passed away with Bob by her side.
Later in life Bob was lucky enough to Meet Phyllis Holtman in Murray, Utah. They were married on August 26, 2000. Through marriage, Bob was lucky enough to gain 7 bonus children. They spent almost 25 years together. Phyllis was by his side and lovingly took care of him in his final days.
Bob’s life is a testament of perseverance, learning, and community impact. Bob loved coaching and did it well. He coached football in Grace, Idaho until his family moved to Morgan, Utah. In 1960, Bob started the wrestling program in Morgan. Outside of coaching, Bob also thoroughly enjoyed raising Southdown Sheep with his father-in-law. After raising sheep, he found a love of raising stud horses. You could catch him on the racetrack almost every weekend watching his horses.
Bob had a true gift of sarcasm and wit. He was a master of comebacks. He found true joy in bringing a smile to everyone’s face. You never caught Bob without a Dr. Pepper in his hand. Although Bob had multiple hobbies, he has always considered his family his greatest accomplishment and most important part of his legacy. Towards the end of his life, surrounded by family, Bob would say, “This is what it is all about-family.” He was loved by many and will truly be missed.
Bob was preceded in death by his late wife Shirley, his parents, and his sister Barbara Hortin. He is survived by his wife Phyllis and family, his 5 children, and many grandchildren.
