In Loving Memory of a Remarkable Father
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, a true pillar of strength and love. Rocky passed away peacefully at his home, on Tuesday August 15, 2023, in his favorite chair with his 5 children kneeling at his feet. Rocky passed away from complications of the effects of a rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis.
Rocky was a revered figure in our lives, teaching us invaluable lessons, providing unwavering support, and leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. Today we bid farewell to a great father, as we celebrate a life well-lived.
Rocky (Rock) Glen Nelson was born on Mothers Day, May 12th, 1957, in Ogden Utah to Raymond (Ray) Conroyd Nelson and Elizabeth (Beth) Afton Galt. He was the 9th of 10 children. His father named him after a Major League Baseball Player. They instilled in him the value of hard work, family unity and the love of his Heavenly Father and his savior Jesus Christ. Rocky was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Rocky met the love of his life Brenda Kim Dahle. They married on Sept 20, 1975. Together they had 5 children, 1 daughter, Andrea Sharee and 4 sons, Rocky Ace, Christopher Glen, Bridger Ray, and Brandon. He loved and adored each one of them and worked hard to provide for their needs of being fed and clothed and a roof over their head. Even though they later divorced after 35 years of marriage, they never stopped caring and having love for each other. They continued to spend family time together on birthdays, holidays and Sunday Dinners. She spent the last days of his life, making sure if he needed anything.
Rocky embraced the role of a father with remarkable dedication and devotion.
He poured his heart and soul into raising his children, guiding them with wisdom, compassion and unwavering love. He instilled in each of them a strong moral compass, teaching them the virtues of honesty, integrity and empathy.
As a father, Rocky excelled not only in shaping his children's character but also in fostering their dreams and ambitions. He encouraged their passions and provided unwavering support, nurturing their talents and helping them grow into exceptional individuals. A true motivator, he inspired them to reach for the stars and taught them the value of hard work and perseverance.
Rocky will be forever remembered for his infectious laughter, his wise counsel, his love of fishing, sketching, rock hunting and collecting and polishing of various rocks, going for long drives, long walks, gardening of flowers and vegetables, and playing board games with the family. He enjoyed hunting but hung up his gun to instead photograph nature, and to make every moment count.
His love and pride were evident in every interaction. He cherished family gatherings, making lifelong memories with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and relishing in their achievements. We will always have fond memories as kids of our excursions to the parks, Belmont Springs and camping at Bear Lake. He gave the BEST HUGS that will be missed by all.
Rocky was a very private person, but was always the 1st one to help anyone in need.
Rocky started the work force at the age of 14. He held various jobs but as an adult, his jobs were at the IRS as a custodian, Futura Industries, as a supervisor over the anodizing and plating department, and HAFB where he spent 32 years before his retirement. He received various awards throughout his career. While at HAFB he met his hunting buddies Duane (Dewey) Swallow and Ruben (Rue) Lovato. They have remained life long friends.
Surviving are his 5 children: Andrea Nelson, Rocky Nelson (Kim); Christopher Nelson, Bridger Nelson (Brandie), Brandon Nelson (Valerie), A granddaughter, ShaRae Nelson who was like a daughter to him in every sense of the word.

Today as we mourn the loss of a phenomenal father, we know that his legacy will endure through his children, and the values he imparted. Though his physical presence may be gone his spirit will forever guide and protect us.
Let us remember the laughter he brought into our lives, his compassion he shared without reservation, and the love he bestowed upon each of us. May his memory serve as a constant reminder of the extraordinary impact a father can have.
In loving memory of our most beloved father, may you rest in eternal peace. You were and will always be the world's greatest father.
