Morgan

Ronald Lloyd Gates, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Morgan, Utah, on November 1, 2024, at the age of 81. Surrounded by his family, he departed this world in the warmth of their love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and devotion.

Born on June 21, 1943, in Manti, Utah, Ron was the cherished son of Donald John Gates and Helen Petersen Gates. When he was only four years old, Ron’s mother, Helen, passed away, and he was lovingly raised by Doraleen Torgerson Gates, his grandparents and his aunts. His early years were spent in Manti and Salina, Utah, where he graduated from North Sevier High School in 1961.

In 1962, Ron moved to Salt Lake City, where he would soon meet Janice Winkelkotter, the love of his life. They were married in Reno, Nevada, in 1966, beginning a beautiful journey together. For 58 years, Ron was a devoted and loving husband to Janice, with whom he raised five wonderful children. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he was an unwavering source of strength and love for them.

Ron spent his entire career in the plumbing industry, a profession he was passionate about and loved deeply. Throughout the years, he made countless long-lasting friendships, known for his willingness to share his knowledge and teach others about the products he was so enthusiastic about. Outside of work, Ron enjoyed learning about his ancestors and family history, spending time on the golf course, and embarking on road trips that brought him endless joy.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Janice Gates, and their five children: Rod Gates (Wendi), Ronald John Gates (Celeste), Paula Brown (Russell), Kelli Clark (Kevin), and Janelle Blonquist (Andrew). He was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by six brothers, one sister, and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his granddaughter Brittani Brown, and one brother.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Elsie and Corey with Quality Homecare for their compassionate support.
