Ruth Colleen Mecham

June 5, 1929 — December 15, 2016

Ruth Colleen Mecham passed away peacefully on December 15, 2016 at the age of 87 surrounded by a daughter and 3 great grandchildren.

Colleen was born June 5th 1929 at the Crouch Ranch in Lost Creek, Croydon, UT to Ernest Melvin (Med) and Rachel Fannie (Rae) Cox Crouch. She was the youngest of 4 children.

She attended grades 1 & 2 at Devil Slide and grades 3-12 at Morgan. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1947.

She married the love of her life Max L. Mecham on June 11th 1948 in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple (Max passed away December 13th 1987). They were blessed with 3 children, 10 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with 1 more on the way. Also 47 Step great grandchildren and 1 Step great- great granddaughter. She was also an “adopted” grandma to countless nieces and nephews after her brother and sisters passed away.

After Graduation Colleen lived in Salt Lake City with her sister, Barbara & Delbert London and family while she worked for Burlington Transport Co. as a steno/clerk until November 1950. She and Max then moved back to Morgan where she began employment at Doyles Market and later with the Morgan County News. During her years there she worked for four different publishers.

Her hobbies included ceramics, porcelain dolls, sewing, and watching her grandchildren’s ball games and horse shows. While Max was alive they spent their time together 3-wheeling, snowmobiling, horseback riding , camping and traveling with friends and family.  She was a member of the culturettes club and an AVID Jazz Fan. She had many friends and spent countless hours visiting and talking on the phone with them. She always looked forward to the “Gang” getting together. But, her greatest joy was her family and she loved them all dearly. She loved to come up with any reason to get all of her family together for a BBQ. Colleen was a great cook and friends and family alike will always remember her endless supply of treats and her famous sloppy joes at Halloween with cheese slices that she cut up to look like jack-o-lanterns.

She was an active member of the L.D.S. church and had a great testimony of eternal families. She has served in the Primary, Jr. Sunday School, Relief Society, Ward Librarian, Visiting teaching Supervisor and a Visiting Teacher.

Colleen is survived by her three children: Mike (Sandy) Mecham, Bountiful; Laurie (Lee) Hawkins, Arimo, ID; and Cindy (Kim) Petersen, Pen Rose, UT, her grandchildren (and spouses), great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. Also surviving is her “adopted” sister and life-long friend Ardith Peterson. She is preceded in death by her eternal companion Max, her parents, her siblings: Faye (Ted) London, Barbara (Delbert) London and Wayne (Mabel) Crouch.

Funeral services will be held Monday December 19, 2016 at 11:00 in the Rock Church, 10 W. Young Street, in Morgan. Friends may visit the family Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at Walker Mortuary and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 and the Rock Church.

The family wishes to thank all of her many special friends that were so good to her. A special thanks to the staff of the Family Tree Assisted Living Center in Morgan and Comfortworx Hospice for their great care of Mom for the last 3 years. Your kindness did not go unnoticed.
