Seth Harvey Schick, age 74, passed away April 6, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 8, 1936 in Kaysville, Utah to George and Ruth Schick.
Seth graduated from Utah State with his Master's Degree in Agricultural Economics (Land Resource Management). He owned and operated Schick International for 41 years. He married the love of his life, Karren Hodgson, on September 2, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. Together they have four children: Jeff, Scott, Daranee and Alison.
Seth was a proud veteran of the Air Force and was part of the Strategic Air Command during the Korean War. He enjoyed working in developing countries (26 in all), helping those in need. He could always tell a good story about one of the countries he worked in with all of the many friends he made wherever he stopped for more than a few minutes. Discussing world politics and farming was a favorite pastime. He loved to work with horses and on his family farm in Kaysville. People throughout the world and Utah know of the many things that Seth was involved with - from helping friends and family members in need, to all the projects that he worked on: Plymouth, Utah north to Bluff and St George south. His Utah work included developing test vineyards in southern Utah, flood control systems, irrigation reservoirs for farmers, water supplies and drainage for small cities and towns.
Besides his work, he was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. He traveled extensively to be with them during their activities. If they happened to be in New Zealand, it gave him an excuse to see yet another country.
He is survived by his wife, Karren; his children: Jeff (KayLynn) of Elwood, UT; Scott (Kjerstin) of Hyde Park, UT; Daranee of Nampa, Idaho, and Alison of Shiprock, New Mexico, and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother and sisters: Alice (Bill) Reitz, Ruth (Dix) Cloward, Susie Zobell, Dorothy Obray, George Schick, and Mary (Bill) Evans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Sterling and one sister Kay Moore.
The family would like to express a special thanks to all the special people at the Huntsman Cancer Institute who gave us more years to enjoy with him than we would have had otherwise. We also want to thank the special people of Applegate Hospice Care.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Seth's life will be on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, UT, and Monday, April 11, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Enterprise Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be at the Kaysville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Huntsman Cancer Foundation.
