MORGAN - Theodore Lynn McCurdy "Ted", 87, died peacefully with his family surrounding him on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
Ted was born in Firth, Idaho on July 7, 1925 to Vida Pearl Twitchell and Fred Dubois McCurdy. He graduated from Pocatello High School at 17 years old and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Ted served as a Navy/Marine Corps Medic (Pharmacist Mate). Ted served in several fleet hospitals and aboard ships. He participated in the invasion of Saipan and Tinian in the Pacific Theater of World War II.
Ted went to work for Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph after the war. He soon met his eternal sweetheart Patti LaRue Ralphs. They were married February 28, 1952. The marriage was later sealed in the Ogden temple on June 15, 1984. They have been "Pat and Ted" ever since. Ted worked for the telephone company for 32 years. He found his second career as a Forest Ranger in the Ashley National Forest for 10 years.
Ted was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest. Ted devoted much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America, serving in almost all capacities from Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, and up to district and council levels. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and served over 30 years in the Boy Scouts of America; an accomplishment in which he was very proud.
Ted loved his wife of 60 years very much. They had five children and they were the joy of his life: Sam McCurdy of Morgan, UT; Patty Romero (Sam) of Morgan, UT; Debbie Messenger (Lynn) of Fishtail, MT; Connie Roche (Roland) of Smithfield, UT; and Ted "Teddy" McCurdy (Michelle) of South Ogden, UT. Ted and Pat have 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Jean Romriell. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at 12 noon at the Field Street Chapel in Morgan, UT (240 S 300 W). A viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary in Morgan, Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm and at the church prior to the services on Thursday from 10:45 to 11:45 am.
Interment will be at the South Morgan Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all those who cared for Ted with such love and skill in his the last weeks, especially Cathy and Sue from AFI Hospice for all their endless and genuine devotion in helping our entire family through this difficult time.
