Thelma (Bobbie) June Trussell Stevens, 97, passed from this life at the family home in Henefer Utah in the early hours of November 21, 2024. She was born on June 19, 1927 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas to Floyd Sanford Trussell and Dorothy Mae Nichols Trussell.
Her family lived in Kansas until moving to California, where her father operated a gas station. During World War II her father would frequently invite soldiers to his home for dinner. Edwin Thompson Stevens was one of these soldiers and became enamored with Bobbie. After Ed was discharged from the service they married on February 17, 1946 and moved to the little mountain town of Henefer, Utah, where they lived for the rest of their lives on the family farm. Bobbie often spoke fondly of her childhood in the Flint Hills of Kansas and her time in California. She was proud of her Native American heritage and that the Henefer home site was a stop on the Mormon Pioneer Trail.
In Henefer they cared for Ed’s ailing parents until their deaths. Ed continued to operate the family farm with Bobbie by his side. Bobbie was a long-time seasonal employee of the IRS, travelling daily from Henefer to Ogden. She survived the great depression, World War II and Covid. Truly, she was part of the “greatest generation”.
Bobbie was a convert of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held church positions even before she was baptized. Her marriage to Ed was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 17, 1964.
Bobbie always encouraged her children to develop their talents and supported them in everything they chose to do. She was an accomplished seamstress and loved music and reading books, and watching old western TV shows and movies. She embodied perseverance, love and devotion to family, patience and a unique sense of humor.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brother Ronald, sisters Shirley, Doris and Betty, and a grandson, Jacob Judd. She is survived by her brother Donald, sister AnaMarie, and her children, Karen Vereen (Steven), Barbara Atwood (Jeff), Yvonne Judd (Randy), and Bryant Stevens (Tami), 12 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
The family wishes to especially thank all of the caregivers from Enhabit and Quality Hospices who have assisted with her home care the past few years. Bobbie loved them all.
